Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in the Pudong New Area will become a mature and cross-industry national science and technology center by 2020 to help Shanghai become a global innovation center.
The Shanghai Development and Reform Commission said the project has been approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The center will introduce innovation-oriented evaluation mechanism in state-owned enterprises and quicken the process of the city's service-oriented economic transformation, Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong said last month.
The center embraces various industries and will integrate resources from academic research, industry development and finance support.
The center is expected to generate technologies and innovations in life science, materials, environmental protection, new energy and other industrial sectors.
